06/07/2008 -- Coastal Inspired Art At Silver Heron Gallery![]() Locke's newest collection is inspired by the beautiful Oregon coast. She transformed the rock formations, seashores and cliffs into a rich collection of abstract landscapes. Using bases of earth tones overlaying each other and complementing them with hues of blue, these paintings create a unique depth and richness. Layers of color were built up with thin washes the artist allowed to run down the canvas over completed parts of the painting. Cold wax was then added to the paint to build up textures in concentrated areas. Locke will be in the gallery on Saturday to present a live demonstration of her techniques. "I was looking at the beautiful strata of color in the rocks and cliffs of the coastal area," Locke said. "The focus of this work was not to duplicate these scenes, but to extract the textures and feelings of this environment." The Artist's Palate, the gallery's wine salon, will be open for tasting, where wine can be purchased by the glass or bottle, with case discounts available. There will be live music in the piano bar from noon to 7 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. Hors d'oeuvres will be served on both days, and a drawing will be held for a complimentary piece of Oregon Sunstone jewelry. Show dates are from June 6 through July 31. The Silver Heron Gallery is located in downtown Depoe Bay at 15 SE Bay St. For more information, call 765-2886. « Back to All News |
